Peshawari mutton kadai


"Peshawari mutton kadai" is a traditional Pakistani dish,that is prepared during almost every festival in Pakistan. Its very easy and quick recipe which can satisfy your craving to have something special. I was planning to prepare any mutton dish, and I came across with this recipe, I tried this for the first time and it gave an unforgettable taste! 

                             This is a simple recipe with less ingredients even though the taste is unbeatable!! This is a thick gravy with soft mutton, goes well with rotis, naan  and all flat breads. The mutton is  soft,  juicy & well Cooked in tomato gravy gives a rich tangy flavour, and it's  so tempting... 

So, enjoy this special dish with your loved ones.. 


Preparation time: 5 minutes 

Cooking time : 1 hour (40  mins for cooking mutton) 


Ingredients :-

Mutton - 1 kg (cut into small pieces) 
Crushed pepper - 1 tsp
Ginger (julienne cut) - 1 tsp
Ginger crushed - 1/2 tsp
Tomato -  3 large
Cinnamon - 1 piece 
Cardamom - 2-3
Star anise -  1
Oil -  4 - 5 tblsp
Ghee-2 - 3 tsp
Red chilly powder -  1 - 2 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 1/2 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
Yoghurt - 1 tblsp
Green chilly - as required 
Salt - as needed
Coriander leaf & julienne cut ginger - for garnishing. 


Instructions :-

  1. Heat 2-3 tblsp of oil in a pressure cooker, add julienne cut ginger, saute it for a minute.                                                                    
  2. Then add washed & well drained mutton pieces and saute it for 2 minutes. Add crushed pepper & salt into it and pressure cook it for 40 mins. First 5 minutes on high flame and then on low flame.                                                                                                         
  3. Meanwhile, take Tomatoes in a vessel immersed in water and boil it for 10 mins. Put cuts on the tomatoes, so you can easily peel off. When its Cooked and soft, take it out and remove the skin.                                                                                                                   
  4. When the mutton is done, heat oil in a kadai, roast Cinnamon, cardamom & star anise.                                                                                
  5. Then add crushed ginger and saute it.                                                          
  6. Next add Cooked and peeled tomato pieces, cook well on medium -  high flame until it smash well.                                                                                   
  7. Now add chilly pwd, coriander pwd, garam masala pwd, salt and mix well. You can also add pepper pwd &  green chilly according to your spice level.                                                                 
  8. Add mutton stock from the Cooked mutton and mix well.                                                              
  9. When it starts to boil, add mutton pieces and give a mix. If the tomatoes are not much sour, add yoghurt or you may skip it.                                              
  10. Now add ghee &  mix. Also add little water if needed, let it boil for 10 minutes and the gravy becomes thick.                                  
  11. When it thickens and oil releases out of it, turn off the flame and it's time for garnishing..                                                                                                                   
Ready to serve with rotis....
