Semolina drink
Semolina drink is a traditional recipe,we call it as thari kanji,mostly served for ifthar, it is very healthy & nutritious,also high in protein, fibre & minerals.
This recipe take me back to my childhood memories, that my mom used to serve us most of the fasting days with this,to make the ifthar menu more healthy and tasty.She makes this in thick consistency kind of porridge , so it can be served hot or chilled. You can also make this with coconut milk which brings you more traditional taste.
But,this is a similar & simple version in a thin consistency served as a drink .No need of any occasion for this, you can prepare for your kids to fill their tummy with a healthy & tasty drink....
So, let's begin with the ingredients.,
Prepartion time : 5 minutes
Cooking time :10 minutes
Ingredients :-
- Semolina - 1/2 cup
- Milk - 3 cups
- Water - 1 cup
- Sugar - 5 -6 tsp
- Salt - 1/2 tsp
- Cardamom pwd - 1/4 tsp
- Ghee - 2 tblsp
- Cashew & almond -2tblsp of each
- Shallots - 1/4 cup (chopped into small pieces)
Method :-
- Take water in a vessel ,add semolina into it, turn on the flame and cook in simmer stirring continuously for 2 minutes.
- Then add milk , and mix well. let it boil on medium flame . Keep stirring , make sure there is no lumps in it.
- Add sugar & cardamom pwd , mix well.When it starts boiling turn into simmer & boil for 2 mins . At last add salt & turn off the flame.
- Heat a pan , add ghee in it ,roast shallots, when it turns golden brown ,add nuts & roast for a minute. Turn off & gently pour into the milk. Mix well and our semolina drink is ready to serve.....
