GULAB JAMUN
     
                  Gulab jamun is a classic Indian sweet, served on most festive & celebration meals. This is very popular all over India and also some other neighbouring countries, that this finger licking sweet can't be ignored in any celebrations. And it's very soft and juicy which is dunked in sugar syrup and mouth melting delicious sweet.

How Gulab jamun is made

This is traditionally made with 'khoya'  -  milk reduced to the consistency of soft dough (milk solids), in which the balls are made, and it is  fried then soaked in rose flavoured sugar syrup and garnish with almond slices.
And also you can prepare this with other ingredients , such as gram flour, paneer, milk powder, Bread.... But the authentic ingredient is khoya.

'GULAB JAMUN ' refers to

The word "Gulab jamun" means rose berries. Gulab is rose and jamun is Berry. That is, when the balls are made in the size of Berry and gets the colour when it is fried. It is soaked in rose flavoured sugar syrup. That's how it's called' Gulab jamun '.

How to serve

This can be served hot, cold or even at room temperature, anyway it's mouthwatering.but serve Gulab jamun along with the sugar syrup, and enjoy the perfect soft and juicy Gulab jamun.
                     
                       


                         However, the traditional Gulab jamun is made out of khoya, but it's not quite easy available everywhere, but this recipe is with milk powder, that you can prepare anytime instantly. Its very easy that beginners can try this easily. And Gulab jamun is the best option to satisfy your sweet craving...

All you need for this easy recipe are :

Ingredients

For sugar syrup -

  • Sugar -  1 cup
  • Water - 2 cup
  • Cardamom pod - 2
  • Rose water -  1 tsp
  • Lemon juice - 1tsp


For dough -

  • Milk powder - 1 cup
  • All purpose flour - 1/4 cup
  • Semolina - 1 tblsp
  • Baking soda - 1/4 tsp
  • Ghee -  1 tsp
  • Curd - 1 tsp
  • Warm milk - 5 tblsp
  • Oil - for frying 


Preparation time :10 minutes
Cooking time :15 minutes
Soaking time : 2 hours (better whole night)
Makes : 12 - 13 balls

Steps to do : -


  1. Take a vessel,  add sugar and water and boil. Also add cardamom, rose water.                                                                 
  2. When sugar dissolves add lemon juice and turn off the flame and keep it covered.
  3. Take a bowl, add milk pwd, all purpose flour, semolina, Baking soda, ghee and mix well.
  4. Then add Curd and combine well. Gradually add milk little by little and make dough. Be careful not to knead, just mix.If you knead, the balls will become harder.
  5. Grease your palms and make small balls without any crack.
  6. Heat oil in a wok, deep fry the balls in low flame. When it turns dark brown shade remove from the oil, drain excess oil from it.
  7. When all the balls are completely fried, add to the hot sugar syrup, cover it and soak for 2 hours.
  8. When it completely soaked, serve in a bowl  along with sugar syrup and garnish with  almond slices.

    1. You won't get the taste of curd in jamuns, if it is added in mentioned quantity.
      Curd react with soda and make the jamun light & soft..
